Ok, so you are invited out to lunch with someone you know pretty well-- they're paying for it. You--?

Try to find something cheap or inexpensive, just to be courteous. [Even though they are paying doesn't mean they should pay out the nose to feed me]
Get whatever I want to eat despite the cost. [They said they were paying which essentially means they can afford it]
I get what I want to eat but wind up paying for it myself in the end. [Because I feel bad making them pay for my food]
I decline their offer. [Not to be rude, but I just don't feel right having other people pay for my eating]
Why go out to eat? [I offer the idea we can go to the store, buy some items to make food, and then bring them back to my house, or their house, and we make our own lunch and eat it together]

I'm one who says 'other'. If someone (friend or not) is paying for my food, I don't go after the expensive meal, but I don't go after the cheapest thing either. I find a reasonable price to settle on. What I used to do with one of my closest friends was get a meal around $10 (usually at lunch)/$15 (dinner) and she'd pay. Once I got paid and we could meet up again, I'd pay for her meal and she'd usually get something around the same price as what I got the previous time. A few times, we'd just buy things at the store and make ourselves at her place. ^^
