:stare:
*cone of shame*

Some speed paints I did on stream after I got done doing some commissions sketches.
The ideas were pretty random lol and I just felt like doing some background stuff using only the air brush and watercolour tools in SAI.
Twas fun.

Yeah...

Hahaha, mighty baddle derps.

Very nice work. I know this is just practice but I think it could have been better if you sharpen the lines a bit more it looks a bit blurry.

Thanks :)
Well, considering 90% of these images was done with the air brush tool, that would explain the blurriness. Still, I was often told that speed paints shouldn't necessarily focus on perfect detail but rather mood, texture, etc.
I get what you mean but it's hard to sharpen the air brush tool without it looking rather off colour.
Thanks though :)

You're welcome. I normally try to stay away from the air brush because it makes my work too soft but everyone has their own personal preferences for drawing. Yeah you're right it's hard to sharpen the air brush. And I didn't know that speed paints shouldn't focus on perfect detail. Thanks for telling me that.   :3

I have noticed that the watercolor tool is a lot of fun; didn't expect it, as I hate watercoloring in traditional media.

I like that you are going out of your comfort zone! How long did each of these take you? You really got the mood and color scheme down, however the values and overall composition is pretty weak. Remember foreground, middleground, and background, and always use big brushes!

Thanks :)
I'd say about 10-15 mins each? (give or take a few mins). I didn't spend much time on them because I just wanted to doodle some BGs (I got bored lol) for fun.
Yeah I hear you on that, but it's hard to get that blurred depth in SAI sometimes, but once I start doing more serious scenery (which I'm hoping to have more time for them once I get these last few commissions done) I'll be sure to practice zoning and values more in depth.
:)
Haha, big brushes? I used the airbrush (hard egded mostly) for these but for actual backgrounds I'm usually using the more painterly brushes. However, I will try that out :D
Thanks again for the advice and crits, they'll really help in the future :)

These are very nice for being so quick! Wish I was watching while you painted them. I can't really critique beyond what I already said cause I really have no idea what your technique is. I'll stand by my belief in using giant, giant brushes though! Even with the airbrush, just up the size 30% more than you *think* you will need, and wham bam instantly it's much easier to block down shapes and values without the details getting in the way.
