More old artwork (this one from October of last year)
Characters are mine.

This is an older piece that I did some experimenting on with fur textures and lighting to get a certain look and mood. I also wanted to try something purely gray scale (adding some faint colour filters later on).
I remember looking to create a cold and distant feeling between father and son, as if this portrait were more obligatory than invited.

**Anthros, although fun, always seem to give me trouble when it comes to mixing human and animal anatomy comfortably. It's easier when you can do it cartoony where you can warp and mess with anatomy, but when it comes to trying to accomplish realism it can be tricky to do. At least for me... There's a ton of brilliant artists out there than do fantastic work with anthropomorphic creatures, haha! I'm just not one of them... my forte is more with four footed animals, I guess?
Ah well, this one was fun. I learned quite a bit that helped with some commissioned work later on afterward.

These songs really inspired the mood/feeling for this -- [link] & [link]

PRINT UPDATE: Got a couple print requests on this one so I made it a print. There's not much to choose from with this one but, haha! Not sure who would want it as a print with all the fugly watermarks on it BUT alas, there you go :3 Whoever you are that asked for it to be enabled.

EDIT June 2013: Holy smokes! A DD?! Wowzers! Thank you so much to ^KovoWolf for featuring it :) Wow! My goodness!! :blushes: I was honestly not expecting anything of the sorts on this image. It is one I am proud of but gosh, surprising!
Thank you again for the feature :)
Hahaha, I feel kind of awful about the watermarks now .___.

Paint Tool SAI
No sticky hands ;P
My apologies for the watermarks but I've seen this image popping up on a few sites outside dA being sold off as wallpapers and such (I don't know why but lawl) and other assorted things so I'm trying to detour that if I can. I DO have an un-watermarked version if you wanted to see, let me know :)

Cold Stare by *NinjaKato is a great black and white piece that really makes the details pop. All the highlights and shadows are placed in a pristine point of this piece that makes you admire it all the more! ( Featured by KovoWolf )

is ok the watermarks, I do too and is a good way to let the people know who's artist

your experiment is a succes!!!
I draw with SAI too but I can't do that kind of draws yet
althought I can take this as an example of how to do a good job in SAI, so -add to favorites-

by the way, besides the gray scale (I like how you handle it)
I love the idea of the kid in the side, is the cherry on the cake (so tender)

can I suggest... would you like make the eyes in blue, green color or something (it would look awesome) in my opinion

Truely beautiful piece. Maybe there could be more details and textures on fur but the lighting is very well executed.
The thing that caught my eye was character's face expressions. I think you did very well the difference between father, an adult and a child who's eyes are more round and innocent.
Reminds me slightly of baroque spanish royal portraits, they were very stiff, showing no emotions between parents and children at all. But that's just history of art nerdyness ;>
